It is that time of the year again. WOMAD has arrived in Adelaide on the final weekend of the Adelaide Fringe. So Adelaide has moved into top gear for mad March were we have Arts Festivals,  Music Festivals, a Car Race and a horse race to name a few. WOMAD again this year is a 4 day event and with the sun is shining on what is going to to be another musical excursion around the world.

So Friday the 11th of March saw the official opening of Adelaide’s WOMAD 2011. WOMAD was opened  by Mr Ian Scobie, Director of Arts Projects Australiafollowed by The Attorney General the Honourable John Rau, Minister for Tourism who officially opened Womadelaide 2011.

Once the ofiicial part of the opening had concluded we were then treated to a sample of EOMAD talent.  The artists that hit the stage were DAKHABRAKHA (Ukraine) and AMADOU AND MARIAM (Mali). If the standard of these performers are anything to go by then we are in for a treat this long weekend.

Just looking through the program I received at the press conference there is something for everybody.Again I am expecting sound great audio and lighting during the next four days and I will try and get as much inof for you guys as possible along with some great photos from the event. I personally have not decided on who I want to see as there is a lot of great material. To make things easier WOMAD2011 also has a neat iPhone app to help you work out what to see when.

This is the second year that the festival has run over 4 days, it has proved a very popular format. It certainly gives the audience plenty of time to see the vast array of acts.  This is also a chance for production companies to showcase some quality audio gear. With the fact that there are a lot of unusual instruments it will certainly tax the engineers a bit finding ways to mic them up. It is also a chance for punters to hear some exotic sounds.

Well for the moment that is all I have, keep checking back as I add more stories.
